MINCO, Oklahoma -- After NEWS 9 reported a dire need for instruments for Minco's 5th graders, generous viewers flooded the school with donations.
A budget shortfall of $200,000 meant students in 5th grade band class had no instruments to play.
After the NEWS 9 story aired, donations quickly poured in. The school has received 60 instruments and $1,000 from people all over the state.
"They're coming from all over the place. I have driven to Kingfisher. I have driven to Edmond, Del City, Midwest City, Norman, all over the metro," Minco band director Kelli Morrison said.
Morrison decided to surprise her students once she received enough instruments for all of them.
"I had the students come into class, and they thought it was going to be another day without instruments," Morrison said. "Whenever I walked in with instruments in my hand, they all cheered and were really excited. We had a good time with it."
