MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- Now let's say you need a new set of those Goodyear tires or maybe just an oil change. Well, instead of paying big bucks for a mechanic to do the work a new garage in town lets you do all the work.
Midwest City is home to one of the newest concepts in auto care. It's a D.I.Y. garage, or do it yourself garage.
"Stands for just want it sounds like, you come to the garage and you do all your own work," Jason Peters with the Shade Tree D.I.Y. garage said.
Peters is owner of the Shade Tree D.I.Y. garage. He says his shop is for anyone looking to cut costs on automobile maintenance and repairs.
"If you know how to use tools and a lift, great, we'll provide the lift and tools for you," said Peters. "If you have no idea what you're doing, never touched a tool before, we can work with that, too."
In addition to providing the space and the tools, the shop also orders the parts you need.
"It's enjoyable when you're not crawling on the ground getting all dirty and messy," said Peters. "It's a nice clean and professional environment that your mechanic would work in."
The only difference here is you're doing the work, not the mechanic. So, there are not labor charges.
"It saves you a lot of money," said Peters. "You're looking at 50-70 percent less per procedure and that includes parts."
There's also the learning experience and getting consumers to know more about their vehicle and how it works. That's what Peters loves most about the shop. His ultimate goal is to fan out across the metro.
"I don't really see really large facilities as being as effective as multiple smaller facilities so that it's closer to the people," Peters said.
Peters' shop is open seven days a week.
