Now that Riverside is officially open to traffic following the opening weekend for Gathering Place, we've been getting a lot of questions and comments about the grass as people drive by.

People across town are thrilled Riverside Drive is back open near Gathering Place, but there's a little confusion over the tall grass along the road. If you're driving north on Riverside, you'll notice the grass is mowed right up until 33rd Street. From there until you pass Gathering Place the grass is noticeably taller.

Many people online have asked why it’s so tall, so we reached out to Gathering Place for answers.

Gathering Place said crews didn't forget to mow, the grass is supposed to look like that.

The park said it's intentionally natural looking and designed to look like a natural prairie land meadow with wildflowers blended in with the grass. There aren't many flowers to see right now, but Gathering Place said it'll be in full bloom this spring.

And, a bonus, it's sustainable because experts said the plants don't need a lot of water.
