OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Paseo District is known for it's art, but a growing number of families are choosing to call it home. That's why the area needs help to make it safe for children.
Children in the area play in the streets because there is no playground or park in the neighborhood.
"Right now it's really dangerous because we have to worry about cars. We want a playground or park so bad, and we're really close so please vote," said 6th grader Brandy Threatt who lives in the Paseo neighborhood.
The Paseo Neighborhood Association is working with the families to try and bring a new playground to the area.
"Right now it's the street or the sidewalk," said parent Cynthia Ford who worries about her kids getting hit by cars. "It's terrifying because cars pass by real fast."
They've applied for a number of grants including one from Kaboom.org. Kaboom is a national group that helps neighborhoods with playground projects.
Paseo neighborhood kids put together a video to apply for the grant and made the top ten in the nation. Now, it's up to votes to get the grant and the Paseo District is behind. Voting ends on March 31, 2010.
Vote for Paseo625 to receive a grant for a playground and park in the Paseo district.
Crystal Partee is the President of the Paseo Neighborhood Association and has spearheaded the effort to bring a playground to the area.
"These kids are really deserving. It's really important that we succeed. You can vote every day. We're in the top ten. We just need to make it into the top 3 to get the grant, but we need everyone's help," Partee said.
