OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma park could be the permanent home for a new statue of actress Angelina Jolie, and it's guaranteed to turn heads.
The sculpture is a life-sized Angelina Jolie in the nude, breastfeeding twin babies. The artist said it's meant to encourage breastfeeding in public.
The man who designed it, Daniel Edwards, is an artist from New York. He chose MAINSITE Contemporary Art Gallery in Norman to be the first place to put his view of breast-feeding on public display.
"David is a true believer of breastfeeding as a healthier way to raise a child," Christian Pitt with MAINSITE Contemporary Art said.
After the unveiling, the project's coordinator is looking for a permanent home in one of Oklahoma's public parks.
"Right now we're working with Oklahoma City officials and Edmond city officials and some surrounding communities to find a place to have it donated to...a park...some public park," said Cory Allen, the project coordinator.
Allen said he understands some people may not be comfortable with nudity, but he doesn't see a problem with the art.
"There's no reason for a woman not to breast feed in public. They shouldn't be asked to go to a restroom and breast feed because you and I don't eat in the bathroom," said Allen.
Some people don't think a public park is the proper place for this statue of Angelina Jolie, but Allen believes it's an opportunity and putting the piece anywhere else would be a huge disappointment,
Angelina Jolie's husband Brad Pitt is from Shawnee. That's one of the reason's the monument is coming to Oklahoma.
Discussions with Oklahoma City and surrounding areas are still in the very early stages. Right now it's unclear if and where the artwork would go on display in a public park.
The sculpture will go on display in Norman for one day only on September 11.
