OKLAHOMA CITY -- A Logan County man was arrested Monday morning after confessing to killing his 6-year-old child, police said.
Investigators revealed Matthew Peoples, 23, shot his daughter in her head before dumping her body in the woods.
Denise Anderson, 6, was reported missing Sunday night by her mother. Her body was found early Monday morning near Star-Spencer High School just east of Oklahoma City, said Oklahoma City Police Lt. Don Holland.
Peoples was arrested on a murder complaint. Peoples initially told police he had dropped Denise off at her mother's, but later admitted to killing the 6-year-old.
Lakeishia Freeman, Denise's cousin couldn't understand Peoples' motives.
"She was a baby, she was innocent in all of this," Freeman said. "She loved her daddy even though he wasn't around all that often. She loved him."
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is continuing the investigation, trying to determine where the murder took place, Holland said.
Peoples is scheduled to transfer to the Logan County Jail Tuesday.
Peoples initially claimed he left Denise on the front porch of her Oklahoma City home, but later confessed he had killed her.
OSBI investigators believe Denise was shot to death inside her father's home in Guthrie.
