OKLAHOMA CITY -- Although the focus for safety was heavily directed to the roads Tuesday, some people paid closer attention to sidewalks.
"The ground was just slippery," one commuter said. "You didn't have traction with your shoes."
Some peoples' slips landed them in the emergency room, as the icy weather continued throughout the day.
Before noon Tuesday, emergency crews responded to 11 slip and falls, 10 of which were severe enough to hospitalize the person.
"The ice this morning was deceiving to a lot of people," Mike Roy of EMSA said. "It wasn't very visible, very thin layer of it."
In most cases Tuesday, the slips were not an emergency, but still sometimes painful. It is recommended that a person stretches after slipping to prevent a strain, and a pain reliever could help relieve inflammation.
If the pain doesn't go away, it is also advised the person visit a physician.
