Tulsa Police arrested a 20-year-old woman for first-degree murder after they said she shot her boyfriend through her apartment door Friday morning.
Maria Jean Barrett is in the Tulsa County Jail after police said she shot her boyfriend, 27-year-old Joshua Floyd.
Police responded to the East Central Village Apartments at 12300 E. Archer just after 8:30 a.m. November 8. They said they found Floyd lying in a doorway of Barrett's apartment.
He was quickly taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died of his wounds.
Barrett told officers she and her boyfriend had been arguing because he wanted to have sex and she didn't. She told officers he broke her coffee table and walked out of the apartment, according to an arrest report.
She locked him out, and he went to her back door and started kicking it, an arrest report states. Barrett told officers she was in fear, and went to get a gun out of her handbag. Police said she told them she shot through the door just above the peephole.
Tulsa Police said she admitted Floyd hadn't assaulted her, and she had no visible injuries.
Barrett wouldn't tell officers where she got the handgun other than to say it was from "somebody she no longer acknowledges," the arrest report states.
