Bartlesville Police: Adult Student Arrested In Threat Against School

A Bartlesville High School student is facing a felony charge after police say he threatened to bomb his school.

Officers say  19-year-old Mathew Conner did it to get kicked out of school and even went as far as researching how to get expelled on Google. Police say the suspect sent two anonymous messages to police. They say the first message got him suspended, the second --  got him arrested.

"The threat basically stated that if Mathew Conner wasn't expelled from school then the school was going to be blown up and kill everyone inside," said Bartlesville Police Sgt Daniel Elkins.

Elkins says Conner made another anonymous tip on Friday that landed him in in-school suspension.

"The reason he was in in-school suspension is he used this tip application that is available to all of our students and stated that he assaulted a student- which he did not," said Elkins.

Elkins says the moment they saw the threat, they started their investigation and brought Conner in for questioning. They say Conner told them his threat was not serious- that he was hoping the messages might get him expelled from school.

"He basically said he didn't enjoy school. Didn't like being there," said Elkins, "He was very remorseful; I don't think he realized  he realized the severity of what he was doing."

Bartlesville Public Schools issued the following statement:

"A Bartlesville High School student was arrested on the afternoon of Monday, August 26 for threatening a violent act against the school. Upon arrest, the student was not in possession of any weapons and there was no reason to presume any students or staff members were in immediate danger. The high school administration is cooperating with and appreciates the help of the Bartlesville Police Department in helping keep our schools safe."
