Representatives for several Tulsa County emergency departments say 911 service is gradually being restored after a fire at the AT&T building in downtown Tulsa. The fire knocked out 911 service to many areas for about five hours.
Affected departments included Tulsa, Owasso, Sand Springs, Skiatook, Jenks, Henryetta, Oologah and Vinita. Mayes County Sheriff's Office and Pryor Creek also experienced outages.
Tulsa Fire Department said the fire Tuesday morning at the AT&T building near 5th and Detroit in downtown Tulsa caused the outages.
AT&T issued the following statement:
"Services have been restored for customers in the Tulsa area following a fire at one of our facilities earlier today. We worked as quickly and as safely as conditions allowed to repair damaged equipment, and apologize to anyone who was affected."
Tulsa officers were temporarily stationed at QuikTrip stores, major intersections, and fires. Citizens were told to look for officers at those locations or at the three uniform divisions: 7515 S. Riverside Parkway, 3436 N. Delaware Ave., and 10122 E. 11th St.
Owasso Police also assigned officers at convenience stores and major intersections during the service outage.
