A Florida man was pinned in the cab of an overturned cattle truck for about 6 hours on Highway 412 in Pawnee County. Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the wreck took place just after 5 a.m. on westbound 412 near the Keystone Dam.

They say the truck had a blowout on the front passenger side.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say Terrance Bowie and Clayton Smith were in the cab when it left the highway and overturned. Smith, a 58-year-old Florida man, was quickly taken to the hospital by Hominy EMS.

Bowie was trapped in the cab of the truck for several hours as area firefighters worked to free him.

They used heavy tools including saws, jacks and pry bars to free him from the vehicle. They also had to use tow trucks to pull the truck away from the guard rail to give first responders more room to operate.

Bowie was conscious and able to talk to rescuers. A medical helicopter landed in the lanes of the highway around 8 a.m. and eventually took Bowie to the hospital.

Officials said the 51-year-old Bowie was transported in critical condition with leg injuries. His wife told News On 6 her husband had to have his leg amputated.

Smith was treated and released from the hospital. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, according to OHP.

Officials say the cattle got loose but were later contained.
