A man is in the hospital and the suspected shooter is still on the run. A passerby rushed to help THE victim near 71st and 169. A man who works at an appliance shop tells me, he applied a make shift tourniquet to the victims leg. And police said this all started with a drug deal.
This was the scene near 71st and 169 just hours ago after a man was shot at the Cedar Glade apartments. Police said they believe the victim was going to buy marijuana at the complex when he was robbed, something went wrong and he was shot.
"He got shot over there he got into a car with his friend who was gonna take him to the hospital apparently they saw an ambulance tried to flag the ambulance down and this is as far as they got" said Cpl. Mike Hanley of the Tulsa Police Department.
Some of the residents at Cedar Glade told News On 6 they did hear a gunshot. Jerry Christie was across the street when he saw the commotion.
"Police cars came and two ambulances and three fire trucks there were just some people over in front of the building."
Joey Duffy works just feet from where the victim stopped. He said he ran outside after seeing the victim lying on the ground bleeding from a gunshot wound to his leg.
"I have first aid training from being an Eagle Scout and being in the army so I got down there and just helped keep him calm and tourniqueted his leg" said Joey Duffy, who says he helped the victim.
Duffy said he tried his best to keep the man conscious as emergency crews were heading to the scene.
"We just kind of got to know him and I was asking about his favorite movies and you know the kind of things that he likes just trying to stay calm" said Duffy.
Duffy said he was just glad to have been at the right place at the right time.
"My goal in life is just to help people I was just blessed to be here at this time to be able to help" said Duffy.
The shooting happened at the same time the Tulsa 911 center experienced a phone line issue.
Police said at least one call about the shooting was able to get through, and they don't think there was any effect on their response time. No word yet on the condition of the victim.
