Thousands of people supported breast cancer research at Tulsa's Komen Race For The Cure.
This year's Race For The Cure is full of survivors, current fighters and supporters, but all of this pink brings a smile to everyone's face. Thousands of people walked, ran, and watched Saturday to support breast cancer awareness at the Komen Race For The Cure.
"Its wonderful. You meet so many people year after year, you got so much information and it's all support and that's what we need," said Survivor Afrika Shaw.
Afrika Shaw is a member of Soul Survivors, a group that comes out year after year with their pink tutus supporting anyone and everyone dealing with cancer.
They love the vendors and the races but meeting new people is their favorite part of the event.
"You may not know their names but you remember their faces and hug you and weren't you here last year? Didn't you have pink hair? Oh, I love your tutu. It's just wonderful," said Afrika Shaw.
While many of the attendees are survivors, others are battling cancer right now and they refuse to give up. Doctors told Peggy Hoover she had two months to live, eight years later she's still inspiring others.
"I lost my husband and I've lost a couple good friends and I'm just here to let people know that just because you are diagnosed with cancer doesn't mean it's a death sentence. It doesn't," said Peggy Hoover.
The annual event was capped off with an untimed 5K race full of family and friends side by side.
You don't get your mind off of it because you see everybody in pink. But you know you are not alone," said Afrika Shaw.
