A man is behind bars accused of murder after his girlfriend is found shot to death.
The call came into police as a possible suicide.
Investigators thought they were responding to a woman who shot herself in an apartment near 71st and Yale Saturday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.
However, they said further investigation showed the woman was murdered.
Tulsa Police arrested Jermico Willis Saturday after his girlfriend, lesha Wallace, was found dead inside their apartment.
Police said they found a gun during the investigation and initially arrested Willis for felon possession of a firearm.
Officers said they found several inconsistencies in Willis' story and after an initial autopsy report, said there's enough evidence to add a first degree murder complaint.
The Medical Examiner’s report said Wallace did not sustain a contact gunshot wound, but said she was shot from at least 3 feet away.
"There's a lot of things that just don't add up. One thing is, she's never been in trouble. Never had a gun. Family says she's not really interested in guns so there would be no reason for her to have a gun. Mr. Willis was just released from prison about a year ago and has a lengthy history of having guns," said Tulsa Police Sergeant Dave Walker.
If you have any information about the shooting, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at (918) 596-2677.
