The new USS Tulsa is ready to be delivered to the U.S. Navy, according to the company that built her.

The Tulsa is the eighth Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) built by Austal in Mobile,  Alabama. Austal says the ship successfully completed acceptance trials on March 8, 2018 in the Gulf of Mexico.

The milestone comes almost exactly a year after the ship was launched.

The trials demonstrate to the Navy that the ship’s major systems and equipment function as designed and they're the last significant milestone before delivery of the ship.

LCS ships are faster and more agile and can get closer to shore than traditional ships.

The USS Tulsa will become the second ship named for Oklahoma's second largest city.

The first Navy ship named after Tulsa was decommissioned in 1946. It was a gunship that began service in 1924, eventually serving during World War II off China, the Philippines and Australia. It became known as the Galloping Ghost of the South China Coast.
