Berryhill, a 23-year veteran with BAPD, has spent the last six years serving the department as the deputy chief and also has been Acting Chief of Police since former Chief David Boggs retired in August, the City said in a news release.
Spurgeon said Berryhill was selected for three primary reasons: the department vision he outlined in his interviews, proven leadership abilities and his long-standing involvement in the community.
Berryhill was selected after a national search was conducted by the city and the list of candidates was narrowed down to two last month.
