One Oklahoma school district has managed to do what the state legislature couldn't; it's giving teachers a raise this year.
This year, Yukon Public Schools hired 125 new teachers and is giving teachers a 4% pay increase.
Superintendent Jason Simeroth said by focusing on the teacher's needs they're able to focus on the students.
Simeroth said, “That's our number one priority is kids, and without happy teachers and effective teachers, they don't get what they deserve.”
Yukon did some juggling and trimmed the budget in other places, but has had zero school closures, zero bus routes eliminated, and plans on sticking to a 5 day school week.
