Police told the crowd multiple times to stop crossing the yellow crime scene tape.
TPD and TCSO sent a large number of officers and deputies to the scene to keep the situation calm. Some of the officers and deputies had riot gear.
TPD sent police chaplains to help keep the crowd calm. We The People Oklahoma also called for more support to help keep the peace.
"I'm pissed off," says Sheldon Reason, a witness who was at the scene. "I'm pissed off like everybody else around here is. They could have tased that man. He would have still been alive."
Reason says in about 15 minutes he saw Barre die.
Witnesses say police followed Barre for at least a block. Even though he had two knives, some still say he shouldn't have died.
"They followed him from a far distance and all the could have did was maced him," says resident Tiffany Smittick. "Sand bag him, air gas. It's ways to keep that man breathing but they took his whole life."
As each minute ticked by the crowd grew and so did the police presence. At one point officers pulled out pepper ball guns and back up showed up in riot gear.
At one point the Tulsa Police Department's large mobile command post arrived, which seemed to make the crowd even angrier. Katiera Winfrey said the vehicle then left the scene a couple minutes after arriving and the crowd calmed significantly.
Katiera reports many people in the crowd referenced the verdict in the Betty Shelby trial.
