Oklahomans paused Wednesday to remember the lives lost and those changed forever on April 19, 1995.
April 19th, marks 22 years since the Oklahoma City Bombing.
We Remember: Oklahoma City Bombing
Dr. Ben Carson, secretary for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin and U.S. Senator James Lankford spoke at the ceremony.
HUD will always be tied to Oklahoma City. HUD lost 35 employees 22 years ago. That's the most employees from a single department killed in the bombing.
Senator Lankford released the following statement:
"The Oklahoma City bombing remains one of the worst terrorist attacks on United States soil, killing 168 people and injuring more than 850. No matter how much time passes, the sorrow and grief for those who were killed 22 years ago at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building remains. We continue to pray for those family members who lost loved ones, those who survived, and those changed forever. To honor the victims and their families, we must continue to remember the tragedy, and remember Oklahoma City’s resilience to rebuild from the devastation. The Oklahoma Standard was featured to the world that day and remains the standard by which other communities have recovered and rebuilt. This is also a reminder that although our nation continues to face the threat of terrorism, evil will never win. The American spirit is more resilient and stronger than any act of radical hate or violence.”
The Remembrance Ceremony began at 8:50 a.m. at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and wrapped just before 10 a.m.
