Several hundred Tulsa kids are preparing for the Route 66 Marathon next month.
The kids at Eugene Field Elementary are part of an after-school program called the "GO Run Club". In addition to training for the upcoming race, the goal is to keep the kids moving at least 30 minutes a day.
"They're going to learn a life-long sport. They're going to learn something they can carry with them the rest of their lives. They're going to learn something, they will be able to stay physically active," said Kyle Wilkes with YMCA of Greater Tulsa.
More than 300 kids from Tulsa County school districts will run the 5k race or fun run on the Saturday before the marathon in November.
