The Tulsa Salvation Army needs help keeping people cool in the summer heat.
The charity opened its Center of Hope as a cooling station. Anyone can go there, 24-hours a day, to get a break from the heat.
They say it’s unusual to see such a strong need this early in the summer.
"Usually, we're well in July before we hit this, so we are concerned with the residents - if they don't have a shelter of their own to go to, they have someplace to come. And also, we want them to try to hydrate in advance of getting overheated so no one suffers from heat stroke or anything like that," DJ Morrow Ingram said.
The Salvation Army says it could use donations of bottled water.
You can drop off donations at their Area Command on 11th Street between Sheridan and Yale.
The Salvation Army is also kicking off their annual Fan Drive this Saturday. They'll be collecting fans at area Westlake Ace Hardware stores for two weeks, then they’ll be given to people who need them.
