On Saturday, News on 6 anchor Meagan Farley got inside with owner and developer Jim Hawkins, who says this project is a first of its kind.
Built in 1954, the old Enterprise Building is known by many for the dark black glass that covers its exterior.
What has been happening inside is somewhat of a mystery.
“We've been planning it for two years and it’s really exciting when we open it up literally next week when the skin comes off,” said Hawkins.
Most of the new apartments will have balconies overlooking Downtown Tulsa's Deco District.
“It was a derelict building and we are trying to bring back Downtown Tulsa,” explained Hawkins. “It is very well constructed.”
The apartments will be outfitted with gas versus electric, LEED certified for lower utility bills.
The living space will also come with 1-3 rooms with rent starting at $1,100 per month.
“We think the market is very broad,” stated Hawkins. “Now, you're asking about how deep it is. Well, we just haven’t reached that point yet.”
Their target market, he says, is made up heavily of millennials and baby boomers.
“[With] 2.5 million square feet of space like this in Downtown Tulsa that needs to be brought back but not as office space, needs to be living units and there is a demand for that,” said Hawkins.
The first units will be available this summer.
