Oklahoma Appeals Court Affirms Life Sentence In Teen's Death

The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the life prison sentence of a 20-year-old man convicted in the shooting death of a teenager five years ago.

The court upheld the sentence Friday for Roderick Montreal Armstead, who was found guilty by a Tulsa County jury of first-degree murder in the June 2011 death of 16-year-old Corvelle Grayson.

Armstead is one of three men charged with first-degree felony murder in the case. Prosecutors alleged the defendants acted together when they chased and shot at a car in which Grayson was a passenger. Grayson was killed when the car struck a tree.

Armstead's murder conviction allows the possibility of parole. His defense attorney, Wayna Tyner, did not immediately return a telephone call on Friday seeking comment.
