Police say a man is not expected to survive after he was severely beaten on a Tulsa street Wednesday evening.

Officers got a report of multiple people beating a man near 56th Street North and Peoria just before 8 p.m.  They arrived to find the victim lying in the street. EMSA took him to the hospital.  Tulsa Police Sgt. Dave Walker says the 41-year-old man has extensive brain injuries and could die.

A short time later, police stopped a white 2002 BMW seen leaving the scene and questioned six people in the car.

Walker says 36-year-old Ernest Edwards and Romelo Northington and Tonyo Hughes - both 18, were taken into custody, as well as a 17 year old. The other two people in the car were released.

Police say that several of the people in the car admitted that they observed the four suspects "kicking and hitting the subject while he was on the ground."

During questioning, Walker said police learned the victim was beaten because the suspects thought he had assaulted one of their family members, but investigators haven't found any evidence that assault ever happened.

Edward, Northington, Hughes and the juvenile were booked into the Tulsa County jail on complaints aggravated assault and battery. Jail record show all four have a court appearance set for March 24.
