Police in McAlester say one man has been fatally wounded and another was injured in a shooting at a residence in the 700 block of South Third Street.

Three people total were targeted in the shooting, police said.

Police say the suspect fired his gun from inside his own car, in his own driveway. He hit two of his neighbors... two doors down.

McAlester police say a group of neighbors partied all night at a home in the 700 block of South Third Street.

Something went sour during the party, and the next day, 41-year-old Sam Nava, came back to apologize. Officers say that apology turned into an argument.

Amanda Tinker heard it from across the street.

"That's when I heard some yelling going on," she said. "I kind of opened my door and looked out."

Things escalated when the neighbors came over to Nava's house down the block to confront him.

Police say Nava shot at all three of them, and officers arrested him on complaints of murder, shooting with intent to kill, and felony possession of a firearm.

"They confronted him inside the car," MPD Sgt. Chris Morris said. "That's when he pulled the gun, started firing the rounds, they took off running, he struck them in the back."

Michael Meneley, 32, died from his injuries, while 32-year-old Damon Williams had to undergo emergency surgery. A third neighbor got away, unharmed.

Police say Nava's daughter-in-law and her baby were home at the time.

"She's pretty shaken up. Pretty understandable," Morris said. "She had a 5-month-old baby with her. That's a tough deal for her."

It's tough for some of the neighbors, too. Tinker says she moved here a year ago, and now, she misses living in the country.

"It's just crazy," Tinker said. "You think that someone, especially a neighbor, was just earlier alive and everything was fine. And then someone's getting shot outside your door. Makes you scared."

Police say Nava is a convicted felon and should not have had a firearm.
