One of America's most successful gospel music festivals is coming to Tulsa.
The Brumley Gospel Sing has been around for decades, and it seems it's been everywhere in this part of the country but here, until now. And Tulsa rolled out the welcome mat, complete with a proclamation.
"Mayor of the city of Tulsa, do declare today, November 12th, 2015 as Brumley Music Day in the city of Tulsa," they announced.
The four-day Brumley Gospel sing is coming to the Mabee Center the first weekend in August next year.
The festival was started by Albert Brumley in 1969 in Springdale, Arkansas.
Brumley has written hundreds of songs and his music has been recorded by almost every singer you can imagine; the most famous piece is the song I’ll Fly Away.
Don't know why it took 48 festivals to get it to Tulsa, but clearly Bob Brumley was moved when talking about bringing his father’s festival home.
"Deep down in his heart, he counted Oklahoma as his home. To know that we are welcomed back in his state is just great to be here," he said.
