The sheriff says a Delaware County man shot his adult son in the leg during an argument Monday night.
Sheriff Harlan Moore says deputies got a 911 call at a rural Jay home at about 7:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they learned Dan Murry, 79, had shot his son, Gary Murry, 53, after the son had threatened to hit Dan Murry with a marble table top.
The younger Murry lives on his parent's property in a small recreational vehicle, according to the sheriff.
Sheriff Moore says Gary Murry was apparently intoxicated and had threatened his father and mother earlier in the evening and had been escorted out of the parents' home several times.
The father told deputies when Gary Murry re-entered the home the last time, Gary Murry picked up the table top and moved towards him.
The sheriff says Dan Murry fired one shot at his son, hitting him in the left leg. Medical personnel took Gary Murry to a Joplin hospital where he was treated and released.
Sheriff Harlan Moore says the father was not arrested and he has asked the DA to charge the son with domestic abuse.
