The Dallas Cowboys lineup was going to look a lot like an OSU alumni team with Brandon Weeden, Joesph Randle, Tyler Patmon, Dez Bryant and Dan Bailey all starters.
"It was nice when I came here, knew about 6/7 guys,” said Weeden. “It was nice having those friendships, guys you can kind of rely on to show you the ropes."
Bailey added, “It's awesome to play with those guys in college and see they're growth as an individual as well as a professional is fun. And to be on the same team and root for those guys, it makes it fun."
All of sudden it felt like Stillwater.
"You see a lot of alumni, OSU plates, and things like that, so pretty cool to be in the middle of Big 12 country," Weeden stated.
Bailey compared the Oklahoma State atmosphere to the atmosphere in Dallas. "The atmosphere in Stillwater feels like a big family sitting in the stands rooting you on,” he recalled. “Here, it's about twice as many people and an even larger following across the country. There's definitely similarities, but they're kind of different in their own way, but they're definitely both a blast to be a part of.”
But, you have to follow through on being a good professional. Kicker Dan Bailey has been perfect this season.
"I have really good battery with Chris, our holder and LB, our snapper. The consistency I've had there, I've had the same guys since I've been in the league. Really just makes it easy," he explained.
The current Dallas Cowboys remember their successful careers as OSU Cowboys. But for some of the former Pokes, this season hasn’t gone too well in silver and blue.
“I'm a confident player and we just got to continue to keep on working and us as a whole get strong,” said Dez Bryant. “It is what it is; all we can do is get better. Us, including myself, we have to get better; that's the only way we can win."
Bryant missed five games with a foot injury, Weeden lost his starting job to 3rd stringer Matt Cassel and Joe Randle was cut by the Cowboys after three years in Dallas. The former Pokes at least say, they're time in Stillwater set them up for success in the NFL.
"It's kind of up to you, to see if you want to take it there, so they definitely provide the atmosphere up there," said Bailey.
