The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a Claremore teenager is in a Tulsa hospital in critical condition after an ATV she was riding on crashed on a Rogers County road Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers said the crash happened at 4:30 p.m. on EW 52 Road about a half a mile west of Highway 88.

The OHP report states a 2002 Honda TRX 500 driven by James Votaw, 18, of Inola was eastbound when he lost control on a curve, went off the road throwing both him and his passenger, a 16-year-old girl off the ATV.

Troopers said Votaw was taken by private vehicle to a Tulsa hospital where he was treated and released. The girl was flown by medical helicopter to the same hospital where she was admitted with a head injury.

The OHP report said Votaw was driving at an unsafe speed at the time of the crash.  Troopers said neither Votaw or the teen were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
