A pregnant woman is in critical condition with a head wound after she was shot in East Tulsa Monday morning. Police she is about five-months along, but they believe her baby is not hurt.

She has been identified as Alexis Russell, 20. She is 22 weeks pregnant, police say.

Detectives have arrested her brother Lemond Russell on an unrelated drug charge after questioning him downtown, according to Tulsa Homicide Sergeant Dave Walker. Authorities also recovered two weapons from a dumpster at the QuikTrip a few hours after the shooting.

"Some of these people aren't smart enough to have a crayon, much less a handgun, and they don't treat them as they ought to be treated and that's if it's an accident," said Walker.

Police say Russell is connected to the shooting.

"We have determined that he was holding the gun when the victim was shot at 41st and Garnett," Sergeant Dave Walker with Tulsa police said.

First responders were called to the QuikTrip at 41st and Garnett around 6:30 a.m. and found Russell in a silver Mitsubishi Galant. She had been shot in the neck at the base of the skull, authorities said.

Firefighters said they got the woman out of the car and immediately began CPR.

Police say the victim lived in a duplex near the Polo Club Apartment complex at nearby 41st Street and 129th East Avenue.

Officers believe the woman was in a car parked in the apartment complex lot when she was shot. Two men - her boyfriend and brother - started to drive her to the hospital but ended up meeting ambulance services in the QuikTrip parking lot.

Police aren't ready to bring a case against her brother; they say they have to analyze the victim and the car to determine what happened.

"We're looking at the car, looking at the victim's wounds before we can determine if there's going to be any charges filed in connection with the shooting," Walker said.

The brother, 19-year-old Lemond Russell, was arrested on possession of controlled drug charges.

"We are holding off on filing any charges in reference to the shooting until more evidence can be processed and collected."

When Russell was arrested Monday, that was less than 24 hours after he got out of jail. He was also arrested Saturday for burglary, forgery and drug possession.
