The Tulsa Police Department released the name of the police officer who shot and killed an apparently suicidal suspect Saturday night, February 16.

The officer involved shooting took place at the Coppermill Apartments in the 5400 block of East 71st Place. Officer Daniel Madewell was one of several police officers called to the complex on an assault with a dangerous weapon call.

Police say a resident at Coppermill chased his roommate out of their apartment with a knife, then refused to come out when police responded to the roommate's call.

The man eventually came out on a balcony with a weapon that appeared to be a rifle but was later identified as a BB gun. Officer Madewell shot and killed the man who was identified only as a 31-year-old Hispanic male.

Madewell has worked for the TPD since August 13, 2007, according to a news release. He is on administrative leave as the shooting is investigated.

Police say they are still not releasing the man's name pending notification to his family.
