More than a dozen Drug Warehouse, May's and Med-X Drug stores are closing, which means some Tulsa jobs are going to be on the chopping block.

Walgreens is in the process of buying these drug stores' parent company, which is USA Drug.

When that deal goes through, 13 stores around the Tulsa Metro will shut down.

Monday was a tough day to be an employee or customer at any of several Drug Warehouses, May's and Med-X Drug stores across Green Country.

Workers were notified that seven pharmacies in Tulsa are getting the ax, as well as two in Bixby and Broken Arrow and one in Jenks and Claremore.

"That's terrible. That's what happens when companies buy out other companies and consolidate. That's the way it goes," said customer Lia McMahon.

This comes after Walgreens started the process of buying USA Drug, which owns these pharmacies.

News On 6 has received tips from several employees, who say they will lose their jobs once the stores close.

A Walgreens spokesperson said he does not have the exact number of jobs that will get cut.

One factor that was considered when deciding which stores would shut down is their proximity to other Walgreens and USA Drug affiliated stores. If you look at this Drug Warehouse on East 31st Street, you'll see it's right across the street from Walgreens.

"I had my prescription over there. I transferred it over here, because I didn't like it over there. It's way too busy. It seems that there are too many people," McMahon said.

Walgreens said after a store is closed, all prescriptions will move to a nearby Walgreens or USA Drug store.

This news doesn't sit well with McMahon, who plans to boycott Walgreens.

"It was a lot nicer experience over here, because it wasn't as busy and the isles are wide. The people are friendly," McMahon said.

The stores are expected to close by November.

Walgreens said nine USA Drug affiliated stores in Tulsa will remain open.
