Monday, with a bird's eye view, Sky News6 spotted smoke plumes billowing from the brush. Our cameras spotted a man dressed in camouflage, carrying a gun.
The photographer stayed with him as he met up with two others in a white pickup truck. The men drove off through rugged terrain. The video shows what appeared to be guns in the bed of the pickup.
"It was obvious to me that these individuals knew that this action was wrong. They lowered the tailgate with the intentions to make it difficult to see the license plate on the truck and intentions to get out of there as soon as helicopter was spotted," said Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton.
Deputies pulled the truck over off of Highway 169 and 407 Road in Oohlogah. The men told deputies they were hunting.
"More time and more investigation showed that their stories had holes in them," Walton said.
The men admitted to setting the fires, but say they were on family property and that they do so every year to burn off brush.
"In order to have a controlled burn, you must stay with the fire until it's fully out," said North West Fire Chief David Puckett.
Deputies say two of the fires set were on property belonging to a corporation. The company told News On 6 no one had permission to be on that property.
The three face a fine of up to $5,000 and 10 years in prison.
