Garber, Oklahoma -- The Garber Wolverines have locked down back-to back Gold Balls in football, now the boy’s basketball team has its eye on a Gold Ball in Basketball.
The Wolverines are number one in Class A heading into the postseason.
“We’ve been knocking on the door the last couple of years,” head coach Dusty Torre said.
Garber was a semi-finalist in the 2008 tournament and finished as the state runner-up last year.
Garber’s leadership on the basketball floor just may put them over the top. The Wolverines have a tight-knit group of seniors that would give anything to finish with the big prize. Six of the seniors have played basketball together in Garber since Kindergarten. They are the best of friends on and off the court.
“I thought growing up, basketball would be the one we would win first, but this is our last chance to do it,” senior guard Dylan Postier said.
For as long as they can remember, this special group of seniors had visions of winning it all in basketball.
“I think we all shared the same dream that we want to win a state title in basketball; so far we have two in football,” senior guard Bryce Lamer said.
Win or lose, the Garber senior class has made a major impact in basketball. Since starting high school, the six players have helped Garber win 93 games. They can reach 100 victories over a four-year span with a victory in the Class A title game.
Garber’s next chance to capture the Gold Ball in Class A starts this Saturday night.
