Blue Green Algae Shows Up At Another Eastern Oklahoma Lake

LAKE EUFAULA, Oklahoma -- Another Oklahoma lake has been placed under a blue-green algae warning. 

Tuesday morning, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says tests have confirmed toxic blue-green algae near the Gentry Creek Public Use Area on Lake Eufaula.

Nate Henning with the Corps says they've issued a no-contact warning for the specific public use area.

The area is open to the public, but the Corps says do not go in the water.  Further testing in other areas of Lake Eufaula are being conducted as well.

Gentry Creek Public Use Area is located north of I-40 just off state Highway 266 west of Checotah.

Other Corps of Engineer lakes in Oklahoma:

Eufaula Lake

Gentry Creek         High Risk      Only observed bloom on lake so far. Gentry Creek area open
                                                  but do not go in the water. Further testing in other areas will
                                                  be carried out.
All other areas       Low             This is subject to change if other blooms are observed.

Keystone Lake

Cedar Creek Cove High Risk      Closed until further notice.

Old Mannford         High Risk      Closed until further notice.

Feyodi Park            Moderate     Considered moderate level of adverse health effects.
                                                  All other areas Low If bloom is observed in other areas, avoid
                                                  and report sighting.

Fort Gibson Lake

Taylor Ferry Beach Moderate      Beach closed as precaution

All other areas       Low               If bloom is observed in other areas, avoid and report sighting.

Tenkiller Lake

All areas                Low                If bloom is observed in other areas, avoid and report sighting.
