OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City officials have agreed to pay former University of Oklahoma quarterback Charles Thompson $50,000 to settle a wrongful arrest lawsuit.
Thompson was arrested in November 2006 for public intoxication by police who were investigating noise complaints at a hotel. Thompson and a group of parents were in a hotel room making banners for a youth football game.
He was later convicted -- but an appeals court threw out the conviction because of a lack of evidence.
Thompson says he filed the lawsuit to protect the public image he's worked to rehabilitate since his arrest on cocaine charges in 1989 while he was a member of the football team.
