TULSA, OK -- If you want check up on your kids at one Tulsa high school, there is now an iPhone App for that.

At least for the thousands of parents who have kids at Edison High School. It's one of the first high schools in the country to have its own iPhone App.

The textbooks are the same and they're still using pens and pencils, but the students at Edison High School are part of a technological revolution.

"This is not a trend. This is a huge wave of how people communicate. We'll start here with Tulsa Public Schools and Edison, and go from here," said Clint Parr, an App developer.

Clint Parr is a software developer and he's a proud Edison alum. He developed an iPhone App for his alma mater.

"It's just really cool that our school has an iPhone App. I've never heard of that before. And you can check everything you need, alumni events and homework assignments and what your sport is up to. It's just really cool," said Ori Anderson, an Edison senior.

The App will be used to post schedule changes and events and list phone numbers for teachers, nurses and coaches. It'll also be an immediate resource for emergency notifications and breaking news.

Right now, Edison uses an auto-dial system, but with thousands of parents to call, that system takes hours. They also put updates on the website, but a computer isn't always accessible.

"This is going to be something that will enable us to communicate with our parents, our students, our community, in a heartbeat," said Stacey Vernon, High School Principal.

The school isn't abandoning the auto-dial just yet, but Principal Vernon says she's proud to be part of history.

Right now, the Edison App is for iPhones only. The developers say by the end of the summer they want to have the App for other smart phones.
