TULSA, OK -- The BOK Center will get revved up with the sound of racing motorcycles this weekend. Japanese manufacturers have dominated the sport for years, but a Tulsa company dreams of someday competing with the big boys.
It's a "Made in America" dream coming true in Tulsa.
Technicians are putting together racing motorcycles for US Highland, a motorcycle company manufacturing dirt bikes right here in Tulsa.
These guys believe they can do better than their competition - one motorcycle at a time.
Everything that can be will be manufactured right here in Tulsa," said Randy Medlin of US Highland Motors. "All our vendors will be American-made vendors."
US Highland will custom make a bike - in fact you'll help design it in a way, it'll be fitted to you.
"Our market rider is going be in the 30 to 50-year-old range, who has some disposable income and has been riding a while," Medlin said. "He's tired of the cookie cutter, everyday type of motorcycle.
That rider will be able to get what he wants: a street legal version of a racing bike that can't be found anywhere else.
"He'll be the only one for miles around on a bike like this one," Medlin said.
Highland bikes won't been seen in this weekend's Arenacross event at the BOK Center, They haven't been approved to compete - yet. That's on the horizon, along with a network of dealers nationwide, a bigger manufacturing facility here and dozens more jobs to fill.
"This is the ground floor; this is the beginning," said Randy Medlin of US Highland.
