TULSA, OK -- More than one hundred school children from K.I.P.P. Tulsa Academy spent their first day of school getting a glimpse of their futures. K.I.P.P. is an acronym for Knowledge Is Power Program.
The kids from the college-prep school toured the OSU Tulsa campus, talking with professors, learning about university life and watching college students.
"Our mission and vision at Kipp is to provide our kids with an opportunity to compete in the competitive world beyond and be prepared for college," said 5th grade teacher Dionne White. "We wanted to give them an opportunity to see college first-hand the very first day so that they have a vision and a goal."
When asked who was planning on going on to college during an assembly, all the students from K.I.P.P. stood up.
"I think it's 110% that I will be going to college," answered Natezsha Harris when asked about her chances of attending college, "because I have the power in myself and I know I can get the knowledge. It's a real goal to me and I feel like I'm going to do it, I'll be the first person in my family to go to college if I do."
Natezsha plans to go to medical school and become a doctor, a lofty goal for anyone, but assisted by K.I.P.P. Academy's positive outlook and the vision that today's trip to OSU's Tulsa campus provided, a much more attainable goal indeed.
