TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa icon is reduced to rubble on Thursday.  The Oklahoma Department of Transportation tore down the old Jamil's Restaurant near 51st and Harvard.

Jamil's is not the only business being bulldozed.  Crews have already torn down three other buildings in the area.  And, there are three more on the schedule.

O-DOT is clearing the way for a wider and safer I-44.

"This is a very dangerous stretch of roadway. It was not designed to be an interstate, so we really are wanting to commit as quickly as possible, start expanding the lanes of traffic from four to six and making some big improvements at the intersections between Yale and Riverside," said ODOT's Kenna Mitchell.

O-DOT says traffic might be slowed a bit while drivers look to see what's going on, but there are no plans to close any lanes during the demolition process.

Jamil's has moved into the former Jimmy's Egg building to the east of its old location.
