(St. Louis-AP) -- Chris Carpenter blanked Florida over seven and a-third innings as St. Louis shut out the Marlins 4-to-0. Carpenter allowed four hits, while striking out five and walking two. He raised his record to 4-and-1 with the win.
Julian Tavarez worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and then got three outs in the ninth for his second save.
Darren Oliver was the loser, falling to 2-and-2.
The Cardinals had only six hits, but bunched them well. Albert Pujols, Jim Edmonds and Edgar Renteria each drove in a run in the fourth, and Mike Matheny singled home another run in the sixth.
