(Manhattan, Kansas-AP) -- More than 1,500 troops from the 35th Infantry Division at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, are now heading to the Balkans.

The 35th includes National Guard units from Oklahoma and 12 other states. The troops left the fort Sunday.

The 35th Infantry was established in 1917 at Camp Doniphan, Oklahoma, which is now a part of Fort Sill. The division served in combat during the final stages of World War I and is now headquartered at Fort Leavenworth.
