WASHINGTON (AP) _ A Chicago company is recalling about 107,000 electric heaters because connections inside can loosen and electrify the metal frames, posing a shock hazard.
The recalled heaters have model numbers 797 or 797 DFT stamped on the back of the unit and ``Lakewood'' printed on the temperature and wattage control panel. Model 797 is white and Model 797 DFT is gray.
Stores including Wal-Mart and Kmart sold the heaters between October 2000 and February 2002 for about $30.
The government said consumers should stop using these heaters and unplug them. To receive free repair or a replacement, consumers can contact Lakewood at 1-888-858-3506 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. CST Monday through Friday.
