(Fort Carson, Colorado-AP) -- Hundreds of Oklahoma Army National Guard troops are closer to shipping out for the Sinai Peninsula.

About 600 troops from the First Battalion 180th Infantry in Durant leave next month to replace an Oregon unit. Members will be monitoring vehicle and aircraft traffic to maintain a 1979 peace agreement between Egypt and Israel.

In Colorado they've been memorizing foreign markings and practicing their observation skills on the passing US vehicles.

Soldiers from units based in Stillwater and Altus will also soon be leaving for assignments in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
