A decision by the Tulsa school board this week to keep five year-round schools open means more cuts across the board.

Some say that may threaten the safety of school children. Each school will cut $1,500 from teacher stipends. That helps pay for extra things teachers do - from sponsoring clubs to making sure students get on the right bus. Some think cafeteria and bus supervision is crucial, especially with the new central stop bus system. Maia Weaver, TPS spokesperson: "I don't think that student safety is going to be compromised one iota in regards to bus routes, playground duty, cafeteria duty its not going to happen at Tulsa Public Schools."

The district has left it up to each school to decide where the cuts will be made. The move will save the district a little more than $250,000.
