OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A House committee has voted to move the original state seal back to Guthrie from Oklahoma City.

The House Rules Committee approved a resolution Thursday that would require the seal to be moved and a duplicate created for official use by the secretary of state.

Some residents of Guthrie are upset over the way the state Capitol was moved more than 90 years ago.

In his book, "The 46th Star," Irvin Hurst described how the seal was smuggled out of Guthrie in the dead of night, hidden in a bundle of laundry.

The Capitol was located in Guthrie from statehood in 1907 until 1910, when it and the state seal moved to Oklahoma City.

Rep. Frank Davis, R-Guthrie, author of the resolution, said he had spoken with Secretary of State Mike Hunter about the possibility of a least returning a duplicate of the state seal to Guthrie, so it could be displayed in the state capital museum there.
