OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Devon Energy pledged $1 million on Thursday to the Oklahoma City Philharmonic to help fund seasonal performances of Ballet Oklahoma and the Canterbury Choral Society.
The gift from the Oklahoma City-based independent oil and gas producer is the lead donation in the philharmonic's Orchestrating Greatness Endowment Campaign, which seeks to raise $6 million.
"This groundbreaking gift acknowledges Oklahoma City's long-standing love of these three important art forms – orchestral music, choral music and ballet -- and the natural interdependence between them," said Eddie Walker, executive director of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.
Through the permanent endowment, Ballet Oklahoma and Canterbury Choral Society will have funding available to ensure their ongoing partnership with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra.
