OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Republican and Democrat leaders of the evenly divided Oklahoma Senate have agreed on a way to share power.

The plan announced by Democratic Senate President Pro Tem Mike Morgan and Republican leader Glenn Coffee calls for a co-president pro tem and an equal number of members from each party on various Senate committees.

The 48-member Senate is evenly divided with 24 Democrats and 24 Republicans following the November elections.

Democrat Jari Askins was elected lieutenant governor and would vote in case of any ties.

Morgan says both sides want an agreement that won't require the lieutenant governor to be involved with the Senate's day-to-day operations.
