AMES, Iowa (AP) _ Iowa State has a new football coach.
The Associated Press has confirmed that the Cyclones have hired Texas assistant head coach and defensive co-coordinator Gene Chizik.
Associate athletic director Steve Malchow says Chizik accepted the job. Chizik, who replaces Dan McCarney, will be introduced during a news conference at Iowa State Monday night.
Nebraska offensive coordinator Jay Norvell had interviewed for that position.
Chizik worked as an assistant coach at Auburn, the University of Central Florida, Stephen F- Austin and Middle Tennessee State before joining the Longhorns staff in 2005.
17th-ranked Texas is 9-and-3 this season.
