McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Pittsburg County commissioners have set October 11th as the date for an election on a 3/4-cent sales tax to renovate and expand the county courthouse.
The tax also would renovate the county jail and create an animal shelter in McAlester.
The chairman of a local progress committee -- Mike Ward -- outlined the panel's findings on the county's needs. But before he could testify, a door had to be taken off its hinges to allow enough space for his wheelchair to pass through a doorway.
Planned renovations include making the building wheelchair accessible.
